A customs bond is a federal surety bond required by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for importers bringing commercial goods into the United States. It guarantees payment of the duties, taxes, and fees owed on imported merchandise — and is required to clear most commercial shipments.

There are two types: a continuous bond that covers all your entries for a year (priced on your annual duties), and a single-entry bond for one shipment. The minimum continuous bond is typically $50,000 or 10% of your prior-year duties. We place both and file them with CBP.

Customs Bond FAQ

How much does a customs bond cost?

A continuous customs bond commonly starts around $400–$600 per year for typical importers, scaling with your annual duties. A single-entry bond is priced per shipment.

Continuous or single-entry — which do I need?

If you import regularly, a continuous bond is more economical and covers every entry for a year. A single-entry bond fits an occasional, one-off shipment.

What bond amount is required?

For a continuous bond, CBP generally sets the minimum at $50,000 or 10% of your prior-year duties, taxes, and fees. We confirm the right amount for your import volume.
